Virginia
Registered Manager

Hello, my name is Virginia, and I am a Registered Manager at Cura Homes.

Virginia, Registered Manager

I began working in a supported living setting around the same time that Autus Court opened. Before that, I spent several years running my own domiciliary care service and supporting vulnerable people in sheltered accommodation and assisted living. That experience gave me a strong foundation in hands-on care, leadership, and advocacy.

Growing up in the Philippines, I saw how limited support was for people with learning disabilities outside the family home, and how easily people became overlooked as they got older. Seeing supported living in the UK showed me what should be possible; people living valued lives, with the right support around them.

To me, good support means people are active participants in their own lives, not spectators. It’s about encouraging choice, independence, and involvement in everyday life – and advocating for people when they need it. Above all, good support is about ensuring people feel safe, respected, and heard.

A big part of my role is advocating for the physical health of the people we support. People with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs often experience poorer health outcomes because illnesses can be missed, especially when communication is difficult or symptoms are misunderstood. In my previous role, I worked very closely with healthcare professionals, which taught me the importance of noticing changes early, asking the right questions, and speaking up confidently. I bring this knowledge into my work at Cura. By paying close attention to physical health and advocating effectively, we’ve secured the right support and avoided unnecessary hospital admissions, helping people stay as healthy and well as possible.

My leadership style is flexible and supportive. I give clear guidance, coach and mentor when needed, and trust my team to take initiative within agreed ways of working. I’m hands-on, and what brings me the most satisfaction is seeing people doing well – living their best lives and thriving in a place they can truly call home.

Outside of work, I enjoy walking, people-watching, visiting new places, and experiencing different cultures. I love scenic and historical places, and my perfect day off would be somewhere peaceful and cold – curled up with a book, a coffee, and a mountain view.

Good support means people are active participants in their own lives, not spectators.
